Celebrating 50 years of
Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy
11 to 14 Jan 2023
“Venue: Kovalam, Trivandrum, Kerala”
Magde, Elson, and Webb, Phys. Rev. Lett. 29, pp 705-708, 1972
Our FCS conference series takes its name from Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy, because that was what we started with in 2009. FCS has contributed immensely to our understanding of kinetics in physical and biological systems. With the correlation signal arising from the fluctuations caused at the level of individual molecules, it is the true precursor to the single-molecule techniques of today. It completes 50 years in September this year (invention: Thermodynamic Fluctuations in a Reacting System—Measurement by Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy, Douglas Magde, Elliot Elson, and W. W. Webb, Phys. Rev. Lett. 29, 705 – Published 11 September 1972). We are celebrating this special year with an invited-only satellite meeting in Kovalam, Kerala, right after FCSXIII (Jan. 13-15, 2023).
