FCS Workshop
16 to 18 Nov 2024
“National Workshop on Fluorescence and Raman Spectroscopy”
18 to 20 Oct 2024 (Online Teaching)
16 to 18 Nov 2024 (In-person Workshop)
The FCS series of workshops were conceived as a unique way to teach the most complex modern instrumentations in the area of Fluorescence and Raman Spectroscopy to the practising scientists and Ph.D. students in India. The original workshop was started with funding from the Govt. of India (Dept. of Electronics and Information Technology) in 2009, through a grant to Prof. Sudipta Maiti, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, India (with Prof. Sivaprasad Mitra, NEHU,Shillong, as co-investigator). Till 2012, this workshop was supported by this grant.
There was a tremendous positive response from the community, and a need was felt by the community to continue the series beyond the Government-sponsored period. From 2013 onwards, the workshop was self-supported (with sponsorships from many industry bodies), and organized through a newly formed society (Fluorescence Society, www.florescenceindia.org) and also with help from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (www.tifr.res.in), and a local host institute. The goal of the society was not only to continue the series, but also to expand the activities by holding smaller workshops, and providing awards and fellowships to students to enable them to present their work at various fora in India and abroad.
This year, FCSXV, the 15th National Workshop on Fluorescence and Raman Spectroscopy is hosted by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) from 16-18 November 2024 at Mumbai, India. This year there willl be separate extensive teaching component on the basics of various instrumentation and applications during 18-20 October 2024 through Online mode. The in-person workshop at IIT Bombay will provide through hands-on training to research students and young faculty colleagues on advanced techniques on Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, Super-resolution microscopy, Time-Resolved Fluorescence Spectroscopy, and Ultrafast Techniques. This part also includes hands-on sessions where participants acquire real data using the techniques they learn. The workshop will be preceeded by the International Conference on the Optics Within Life Sciences (OWLS-17) during 18-21 November 2024.
